Buy Real State in Mexico

There are many misconceptions regarding the purchase of land in Mexico by foreigners but the facts are surprisingly simple.

Americans, or people of other nationalities for that matter, can own land in Mexico outright with what's called fee simple title.

A fee simple title is the same kind of title we use in the United States. In other words you can buy land in Mexico, receive a deed and know that it is yours without questions.

There is an exception to this rule and that involves the restricted zone : All land within 50km of the ocean or 50 km of the borders. Foreigners cannot hold simple title to land in the restricted zone but there are other ways of purchasing this land, particularly the bank trust or fideicomiso.

There are many other caveats to real estate transactions in Mexico.
